Brane Žalar: Details through a Camera Lens Architectural atmospheres in photography
Photo exhibition
Architect Andrej Hrausky thus commented on the photos selected for the CD exhibition: “Žalar travels to experience other cultures, people and environments. Being an architect, he primarily takes photos of architecture, which provides a backdrop for living rather than be-ing life itself – furnishing a stage on which life takes place. Like cinema and theatre, where scenery represents the location of a scene, architecture creates life’s settings and atmos-pheres that enable human activity.”
Architect and designer Brane Žalar has long been devoted to photography, and has developed a similarly strong passion for globetrotting. Žalar has held several public exhibitions of various selections of photos; he has also tried his hand at the monochrome image, and has displayed his works online. It is thus not surprising that the photographer has been approached by several specialised, national and international magazines and has been successfully publishing his travelogues, verbal as well as visual, for a number of years.
Influence works both ways: man has an effect on space and place/environment influences human culture. Specific architectural atmospheres encourage travel and we wish to experience precisely these ambiances when visiting distant countries. Brane Žalar’s exhibition features his photographs from Iran and Azerbaijan. Despite globalisation, the names of these places – Baku, Yazd, Fahraj, Isfahan, Teheran – still sound exotic and appeal to us with their cultural heritage. Andrej Hrausky
