Big Band RTV Slovenija & Chris Potter
Anniversary concert
Conductor: Tadej Tomšič
The Big Band RTV Slovenija is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. To mark this important milestone, the orchestra joins forces with the legendary jazz saxophonist Chris Potter.
A world-class soloist, accomplished composer and formidable bandleader, Grammy-nominated US saxophonist Chris Potter has emerged as a leading light of his generation. He is often cited by musicians and audiences alike as one of the finest saxophone players of our time. The New Yorker magazine describes him as “a tenorist who employs his considerable technique in the service of music rather than spectacle”, and DownBeat called him “one of the most studied (and copied) saxophonists on the planet.” He has performed or recorded with many of the leading names in jazz, such as Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, John Scofield, the Mingus Big Band, Jim Hall, Paul Motian, Dave Douglas and Ray Brown.
Continually active since 1945, the Big Band RTV Slovenija is one of Europe’s leading and oldest jazz orchestras. Throughout a history spanning eight decades, the Big Band has been a seminal force in both the local and international music scenes.
At the anniversary concert in Cankarjev dom’s Linhart Hall, Chris Potter and the Big Band RTV Slovenija will perform a programme featuring jazz standards, as well as some of Chris Potter’s original compositions.
