Arriving in good time
During the festive season in December, traffic tends to get heavily congested in Ljubljana. Visitors are advised to leave home earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.
Teo Collori, guitar; Mario Babojelić, guitar
The Cankarjevi torki sub-series – Solo/Duo/Solo – has so far accumulated enough instruments to make an entire ensemble. After the piano, saxophone, double bass, the violin and the viola, this concert places focus on the guitar. Although off-the-cuff, our choice is also a sure-fire one. The two virtuosos have known each other for more than ten years. They attended the Carinthian State Conservatory in Klagenfurt together before going their separate ways. Collori, among others, as a longtime collaborator of Magnifico, and Babojelić as a pillar of the Bowrain trio. Now they are bandleaders of Momento Cigano and AKA Neomi, respectively.
But they rarely perform as soloists. We can promise quite a few self-penned compositions as well as a handful of variations on classical guitar music repertoire. Together they will play songs featuring motifs from the treasury of Balkan pop and folk music. While paying homage to this great legacy, most of the time its structures and themes are used for free improvisation.
We're in for a beautiful Tuesday night: enjoying the comforts of home in the company of Teo and Mario.
