Leopold I., a Radgona-based artist, is one of Slovenia’s most popular and outspoken rappers. He is much more than just a rapper. He is among the distinguished authors who demonstrate that dialect can stand on an equal footing with standard language – indeed, it can even surpass it in authenticity. He has already appeared twice on Izštekani with short sets. He was a guest on his fellow Styrian Hauptman’s show, and it was at Izštekani’s initiative that the unforgettable Tista zakartana ura came into being – a reimagining of a Vlado Kreslin song to mark his 70th birthday.

In this unplugged performance, Leopold I. will move from stripped-back acoustic guitar arrangements to richly textured full-band versions, with his collaborator Vid Turica once again playing a key role. For a substantial part of the programme, he will be joined by Camerata SMO, the chamber ensemble of the Slovenian Youth Orchestra. Featuring arrangements by Matija Krečič, the concert will be conducted by SMO Artistic Director Živa Ploj Peršuh.

As always, author and host Jure Longyka will be in conversation with the performers. In keeping with the programme’s now-traditional unplugged, analogue format, the audience will also have the opportunity to join the conversation.

Izštekani, a Val 202 radio show and music community with a history spanning more than thirty years, continues in its new format of live concerts and talks, presented before a loyal audience rather than in a radio studio. The shows are broadcast and video-streamed on Val 202. Author and host Jure Longyka interviews the featured artists, while also inviting the audience to join the conversation in a truly unplugged, analogue way.
