Joe Sanders’ Parallels

Expect to hear melodic, dynamic, and expansive jazz when one of America’s most influential bassists in contemporary jazz, Joe Sanders, brings his new project Parallels to Cankarjevi torki. He is touring with a slightly reconfigured quartet, consisting of some of the sharpest talents from the US jazz scene: saxophonists Logan Richardson and Seamus Blake, as well as drummer Kendrick Scott.

Released last year on the Whirlwind Recordings, the album features Greg Hutchinson and Taylor Eigsti, as well as Slovenian saxophonist Jure Pukl, one of Sanders’ regular collaborators. Distinctive and open, the tracks abound in contrasts that highlight the dual nature of Sanders' creativity. His music works as a series of parallel paths—shifting from powerful dialogues and bold improvisation to immersive sonic meditation.
Joe Sanders describes his approach: “As a bassist, composer, and bandleader, my role changes minute by minute – whether it’s building and maintaining a groove, connecting with the audience, or taking a solo. My wish and goal are for the listener to leave the concert uplifted by the power of the music.”
