Arriving in good time
During the festive season in December, traffic tends to get heavily congested in Ljubljana. Visitors are advised to leave home earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.
Stelios Petrakis lyra, laouto; Dimitris Sideris, chant, laouto; Michalis Kontaxakis, mandolin
A Greek musical treat from Crete. Stelios Petrakis, one of the current masters of Cretan music, studied lyra under the celebrated Ross Daly when he moved from Crete to Athens in the 1980s. Throughout his professional career, he has recorded a series of great albums, including releases featuring artists from different musical backgrounds. Over the last decade, Petrakis has toured the world-music circuit, performing at music platforms such as Womex and Globalfest, and played some of the most prestigious venues.
His love and admiration for Cretan music has led him to form his own group, which focuses on the great tradition of Crete, with a repertoire enriched by his own compositions. The outstanding musicians of this project were selected for their true mastery of Cretan traditional music and their open outlook on life. The Stelios Petrakis Trio brilliantly recreates the entire musical mosaic of Crete, marked in particular by Mediterranean influences. Stelios is returning with a brand-new studio album, Spondi (libation), which has topped the World Music Charts Europe.
