Arriving in good time
During the festive season in December, traffic tends to get heavily congested in Ljubljana. Visitors are advised to leave home earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.
Chamber opera, Op. 14
One of the most frequently performed operatic works by the British composer Thomas Ades, Powder Her Face is considered a modern classic. The subject of the opera is the “Dirty Duchess”, Margaret Campbell, Duchess of Argyll, whose sexual exploits with political undertones were the stuff of scandal and gossip in Britain in 1963 during her divorce proceedings.
The opera evokes a nostalgic age of elegance, wit, decadence and jazz, and describes the fate of a cruelly exposed aristocrat on a roller coaster ride from stardom to downfall. Slovenian soprano Sabina Cvilak performs the leading role.
