Arriving in good time
During the festive season in December, traffic tends to get heavily congested in Ljubljana. Visitors are advised to leave home earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.
The double bill brings together the British Isles and the Slovenian Coast.
WSP: Dave Morecroft, keyboards, vocals; Ben Powling, saxophone; Arthur O'Hara, bass, vocals; Luke Reddin-Williams, drums, percussion
World Service Project bandleader Dave Morecroft is a visionary who has taken the UK music scene by storm. He is a leader in music performance, education and production and has a passion that pushes beyond today’s expectation of the ordinary. In 2009, Morecroft birthed the genre-less and jazz-punk quintet WorldService Project who continue to tour around the world and win awards, and later the enterprising European touring network and festival Match&Fuse.
Anthemic melodies, hard-grooves and searing improvisation are packed into a tightly-knit and reluctantly superheroic package; discarding the old-guard uniforms of old, continuing the fight for collaboration and compassion, these anti-Brexit militias take a new form…
The epic and anthemic live sound of WorldService Project is both thrilling and heart-wrenching, and with a theatrical and political live performance thrown in for good measure, the band is known as one of Europe’s finest live-acts.
Pantaloons: Luka Belič, saxophone; Aljaž Markežič, sousaphone; David Nik Lipovac, drums
The Pantaloons trio – bringing together three Pantalones or self-described "clumsy buffoons" under this quirky name – was formed in 2016 by members of Chili Brass Band. The trio initially toyed with melodies and rhythms in jam sessions and eventually gave voice to their original compositions in electronic dance music seasoned with sublimated jazz, funk, breakbeat, dubstep and more. Chosen by Radio Študent for the 2019 Klubski maraton, the Pantaloons exploded onto the Slovenian music scene and, through the support of 2020 INES#talent, played at MENT and Liverpool Sound City festivals. At the 62nd Jazz Festival Ljubljana the trio had the crowd eating out of their hand.
Roguish, finely synchronized, and in the mood for dancing; the Pantaloons is one of those bands that leaves no one indifferent. Festival MENT
When brass musicians explode onto the London jazz scene, they thrill the crowds in the streets and regale their audiences with a unique combination of saxophone-drums-sousaphone.
