Stage adaptation and choreography: Leo Mujić
The internationally renowned choreographer Leo Mujić, who has created a series of successful story ballets over the recent years, found the source material for his new choreography in the famous novel by Francis Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby (1925). The distinguished work from the treasury of the classical American canon exposes in a highly critical tone the negative dimensions of the great American dream and the rigidity of the decadent high society in New York City in the interwar period, which precluded all transition between social classes.
The lavish story of a mysterious rich man, who falls victim to his own love and convictions, is also a narrative about star-crossed lovers. It is set in a world of unimaginable wealth, intoxication and dark obsessions, pervaded with moral vacuum.
The original set design of the 1920s that captures the allure of Art Deco, coupled with the costume design in a relaxed flapper fashion, provides the backdrop for an ingenious blend of classical and contemporary ballet. The music by outstanding American composers Glass, Gershwin, Bernstein and Glen Miller is inspired by the lively, dynamic energy of this notorious era in American history.
The music of this richly choreographed show is inspired by the lively, dynamic and cosmopolitan energy of outstanding American composers.
