Arriving in good time
During the festive season in December, traffic tends to get heavily congested in Ljubljana. Visitors are advised to leave home earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.
National Theatre in Belgrade
Ballet to the music by Vojislav Voki Kostić
Based on Ljubivoje Tadić’s idea, the libretto for the production has been inspired by the screenplay for Dušan Kovačević’s film of the same name, directed by Slobodan Šijan
Choreographer and director: Staša Zurovac
In 2004, the ballet performance Who Is Singing Over There caused quite a stir among the cultural public. Attractive cast, in which there are no leading and supporting roles, marvellous music that gives the show its distinctive charm, excellent choreography and direction, are just some of the elements that have solidified its iconic status, undoubtedly confirmed by the fact that it now received its 200th performance at the National Theatre in Belgrade.
From the first bars, the audience breathes with the performers and becomes another passenger in the crazy ride. The ballet is full of archetypal symbols that are woven into our beings, which is why we recognize and understand them so unmistakably.
Who Is Singing Over There is the first ballet show in recent theatrical history to be performed as a part of the prestigious International Theatre Festival BITEF (2005). The ballet won the Annual National Theatre Award for Best Performance in the 2004/2005 season, the April Award of the City of Belgrade, as well as the Dimitrije Parlić Award of the Association of Ballet Artists of Serbia.
Attractive staging, marvellous music, the brilliant choreography and direction are just some of the elements that have solidified the iconic status of the ballet Who Is Singing Over There.
Dance Nights afterparties
To welcome in the summer with dancing, we are hosting themed get-togethers featuring ambient music, drinks and exchanges of opinions every night between Friday, 23 June, and Sunday, 25 June, after Dance Nights performances. In summer, the idyllic setting of Cankarjev dom’s park provides the perfect venue for pleasant evening gatherings. After The Great Gatsby show on the last night of the festival, Monday, 26 June, we are throwing Dance Nights’ farewell party at the Ljubljana Opera (i.e., outside the building).
After the National Theatre in Belgrade’s show, Who Is Singing Out There (Ko to tamo peva), on Sunday, 25 June, the party atmosphere will be created by the Balkan Brass Band Pivo in čevapi in the Grand Reception Hall.
May Dance Nights bring together ballet artists and dance lovers also after curtain call.
