Gender Equality

We consider an egalitarian society of equal opportunity for all one of the cornerstones of social development. In line with this goal, we strive towards maintaining gender balance within the organization and avoid dividing professions into "male" and "female". Slovenia ranks 12th in the EU on the Gender Equality Index, which is reflected in Cankarjev dom's mission and goals. Cankarjev dom is committed to inclusion, and works towards overcoming inequalities and achieving integration in all areas of its operation and programme selection. Cankarjev dom values diversity, and includes in its programmes content created by male and female individuals, male and female authors of works of art and projects that highlight and strengthen the development of a knowledge society without gender stereotypes or any other preconceptions.

We take great pride in the fact that Cankarjev dom has a strong representation of women in top positions and that our technical department includes more and more women employees. 

It is worth mentioning that almost thirty years ago, Cankarjev dom also played a key role in the establishment of the City of Women, a pioneering feminist organization focused on gender equality in culture and the arts. As a co-producer and venue, Cankarjev dom continues to host the organisation’s programmes and events.
