Arriving in good time
During the festive season in December, traffic tends to get heavily congested in Ljubljana. Visitors are advised to leave home earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.
The Slovenian Book Fair is the country’s oldest, largest and most important book-oriented event. With more than 100 exhibitors and at least 300 accompanying events, it is a source of inspiration and wonderful fair experiences. A first-rate programme has also been planned for this year's edition, to be announced shortly.
The currently unstable epidemiological situation is increasingly alarming the fair’s exhibitors, partners and visitors, who are concerned over the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases and the stricter measures expected in the upcoming period. As holding a live fair has now become practically unviable, the organizers have decided to channel their efforts into holding a virtual fair, an online event that will take place in our homes, i.e. in the virtual environment. As a meeting place and a platform for online events, as well as a virtual marketplace for buying books by most Slovenian publishers. Visit the fair on http://www.knjiznisejem.si/, the virtual fair tab provides two options: browsing a virtual catalogue of publishers and their programmes, and the option of buying books, as well as attending, throughout the fair, various accompanying events, talks, appearances, panels, award ceremonies, live broadcasts... on a special YouTube channel.
Physically apart, but together at heart is the guiding principle of the fair that is so special this year. This is the first time in the fair’s history, a success story spanning 48 years, that the event is not held live. The outcome of the online fair depends solely on its visitors. We can only overcome the crisis together, there’s strength in numbers. This year’s fair continues to abide by the motto: "Pay no entrance fee, buy another book instead!"
