Wandering music

The Republic of Slovenia Public Fund for Cultural Activities (JSKD) has been dedicated to fostering choral singing among children and adults alike for decades. Devoting particular attention to young choral singers in recent years, the Fund’s Wandering Music project creates a special opportunity for youth choirs.

First held in 2011, Wandering Music returns to Slovenia every two years. The event is dedicated to World Choral Day (celebrated on the second Sunday of December) and represents the largest choral gathering of its kind in the country. Its message of solidarity, peace, and understanding complements the artistic excellence of the programme – all beautifully embodied through the universal language of choral singing.

The 7th edition of Wandering Music brings together fifteen selected youth choirs from across Slovenia – about 450 young singers – performing together in Cankarjev dom’s Gallus Hall. The preparations began this past September with the singers meeting individually at regional rehearsals to unite their voices on 14 December in a powerful choral celebration.

The programme features works written primarily by Slovenian composers, taking the audience on a journey through both art and folk songs, and evoking the enchanting spirit of the festive season.

The young singers are preparing under the guidance of their school conductors, while on stage they will be led by conductors David Bandelj and Damijan Močnik. The event takes place in a non-competitive spirit, offering young people a rare opportunity to experience the pure joy of making music together – in the truest sense of the word.
