Alma’s Evenings – Tracing Literature
Andrej Morovič (1960–2022) travelled all his life. He first lived in Berlin, then moved to New York and finally settled down in Burkina Faso. He published many novels and short story collections, won the Best First Novel Award and the Zlata Ptica (Golden Bird) Award. The event is dedicated to Morovič’s novel Tisoč in ena moč (Cankarjeva založba, 2005) that chronicles his travels in Iraq. The Western world was preparing to attack Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, and The Living Shield – a special peace mission comprising various organizations and Western individuals – sought to prevent this attack. Andrej Morovič and his three fellow travellers joined the mission. The evening’s guests are Andrej Morovič's fellow passengers, Eva Marn and Erik Valenčič.
Eva Marn (1963) is a lawyer who worked for the European Court of Human Rights, and founder of the Humanitas Society, the Skupaj Foundation and the Tri muhe Shop. Marn lived abroad, in Strasbourg, Cuba and Burkina Faso, for a longer period of time. Over the recent years she has been a member of the EU Election Observation Missions.
Erik Valenčič (1979) is a journalist. He was an investigative journalist for Radio Študent, Mladina and RTV Slovenia, reporting on burning issues and covering crisis zones. He won the CIRCOM Award for his documentary film Koalicija sovraštva (2014), and in 2015 the Čuvaj /Watchdog Award of the Slovenian Journalists' Association for his coverage of the Kurdish issue.
The talks are hosted by Dr. Andrej Blatnik.
Alma's Evenings:
The Alma's Evenings series is dedicated to talks with writers-cum-travellers about their work and the books they love, about their favourite paths and those they still wish to tread, as well as about the music and gastronomy typical of their favourite places.
The literature that the series focuses on is literature that initiates change. Changing the readers, changing the readers’ understanding of the world, changing the world. More >>
The event will be held in Slovenian.
