A masterwork in the classical ballet canon, Giselle has received countless choreographic reinterpretations since its premiere in 1841. The charming and mysterious ballet-pantomime by the French composer Adolphe Adam (1803–1856) has remained an eternal challenge for dancers and choreographers around the world, and the story continues to dazzle the audiences nearly 200 years after its creation. The touching love story by librettists Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges and Théophile Gautier with Adolph Adam’s timeless music requires great physical expression and superior technique and is one of the most challenging classical ballets to dance. More than capable of accomplishing this feat, the Slovenian National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana brings to life Giselle’s romantic story about the redemptive power of selfless love that abounds in drama and aethereal mystery.
