The new season opens with one of the most prestigious guests in the history of the Golden Series: The Cleveland Orchestra – a member of the elite American “Big Five” and one of the world’s leading ensembles – makes its Ljubljana debut. Founded in 1918, the orchestra is renowned for the elegance and refinement of its sound, its rich expressiveness, and its crystalline clarity. Under the long-standing leadership of Franz Welser-Möst, it has continued to set new standards of musical excellence. Former principal conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and, since 2024, an honorary member of the Vienna Philharmonic, Welser-Möst crowns an impressive quarter-century of artistic leadership with this European tour.
The meticulously conceived programme foregrounds the orchestra’s extraordinary cohesion and virtuosity. While Liszt’s symphonic poem reveals the composer’s most sensitive yet harmonically inventive artistry, Mozart’s final Salzburg symphony ranks among his most playful and enchanting works. The evening concludes with Strauss’s once-controversial autobiographical symphonic sketch, which imbues themes of everyday life with a sense of the sublime.
America's most brilliant orchestra, one of the finest ensembles in the country (if not the world).
