Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov (1991) made a spectacular ascent in the world of classical music in 2011, when winning – within a space of several weeks – medals at some of the world’s most prestigious piano competitions, taking First Prize in Tel Aviv’s Rubinstein Competition, and both First Prize and Grand Prix in Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Competition. His performances are a perpetual source of awe. “I never heard anything like that,” marvelled the legendary pianist Martha Argerich. Despite his young age, the pianist enjoys a glittering career, and also composes for piano, chamber ensemble and orchestra. The critics praise his impeccable technique, elegant touch and witty grace. Combining consummate technique with rare sensitivity and depth, he demonstrates preternatural dexterity, tonal sensitivity and astounding insight.
Trifonov recently added a first Grammy Award to his already considerable string of honours, winning Best Instrumental Solo Album of 2018 with Transcendental, a double album of Liszt’s works, while his latest release, Chopin Evocations, mesmerised both music critics and connoisseurs alike. In commenting on the Best 25 Classical Music Recordings of 2017, The New York Times wrote: “Do we need another recording of Chopin’s piano concertos? Well, we need this one, because Mr. Trifonov plays them magnificently.”
With his elegant virtuosity and youthful vigour, as well as tenderness, depth and profound commitment, Daniil Trifonov has taken the musical world by storm.
