A unique musical culture, artistic diversity, and a commitment to development and education converge in the Dresden Philharmonic’s impressive 150-year tradition, dating back to 1870. Renowned for its stylistic flexibility and openness to the new, the orchestra continually ventures beyond established musical horizons. Internationally acclaimed for decades, the orchestra comes to Ljubljana under the baton of its new principal conductor, Sir Donald Runnicles – winner of the 2013 Gramophone Award and a Grammy nominee in 2016 – who also serves as Artistic Director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the first-ever Principal Guest Conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Completing this distinguished artistic constellation is one of today’s most celebrated pianists, Emanuel Ax – winner of the inaugural Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in 1974, multiple Grammy Award winner, and an exclusive Sony Classical artist since 1987. He will demonstrate his interpretative insight in Ludwig van Beethoven’s first fully orchestrated piano concerto, the work with which the legendary composer made his Viennese public debut. The programme’s grandeur is further heightened by Anton Bruckner’s monumental and emotionally complex Symphony No. 7.
