Arriving in good time
During the festive season in December, traffic tends to get heavily congested in Ljubljana. Visitors are advised to leave home earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.
Conductor: Tito Ceccherini
Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra
Soloist: Daishin Kashimoto, violin
Programme:
Jean Sibelius, The Oceanides, Op. 73
Toshio Hosokawa, Prayer
Toru Takemitsu, Twill by Twilight
Claude Debussy, La mer
In the centre of the concert, surrounded by the waves of the oceans, is a violin concerto entitled Prayer by the eminent Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa, performed by the concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, Daishin Kashimoto. This will be followed by a composition by their compatriot Toru Takemitsu.
“In this violin concerto, I see the soloist as a shaman and the orchestra in the background as the universe, as nature, reaching into and through the shaman himself. The shaman sings to the universe, which either responds to or resists him. The songs are exchanged and the prayer gradually deepens. Eventually, the shaman becomes one with the universe and nature.” (Toshio Hosokawa)
