Joseph Haydn, Die Jahreszeiten (The Seasons), Hob. XXI/3
Norwegian conductor Grete Pedersen is regarded as a pioneer of the revival of Norwegian folk music in choral performances, which are regularly interwoven with selected world music repertoire in concerts. For twenty years, she led the Oslo Chamber Choir, and in 1990 she succeeded the celebrated Knut Nystedt as the leader of the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir, with which she continues to achieve enviable successes today. She first appeared in Slovenia in March 2016, when she performed with the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir, and in the previous season she thrilled the audiences with Haydn's Missa in Angustiis. This year, she will again lead both ensembles in an interpretation of another of Haydn’s monumental works – the oratorio The Seasons. The work met with overwhelming success when first performed in Vienna’s Redoutensaal in 1801. It was at this concert that the young Beethoven is said to have paid tribute to the composer, bowing with enthusiasm and even kneeling down before “Papa” Haydn.
