Screening of a feature documentary film to mark the 70th birthday of Vlado Kreslin
Directed and written by: Miran Zupanič
2018, 107'
Tista črna kitara, Namesto koga roža cveti, Od višine se zvrti… Vlado Kreslin is a Slovenian singer-songwriter with an impressive list of songs that have entered the public consciousness. Kreslin enjoys an iconic status among his fans, a status not fuelled by self-promotion, but attained through his charisma and evocative musical expression. In his style, he combines the melodious Pannonian tradition with rebellious rock and the original language of poetry and music. The documentary gives an insight into the key stages of Kreslin’s rise towards an authentic artistic expression while tracing the cultural context in which he has been working for over forty years.
The documentary filmmaker Miran Zupanič followed Vlado Kreslin for 33 days over a period of three years. The film Sing Me a Song, in which the songs magically tell the life story of Vlado Kreslin, grows into a symbolic narrative about an artist who draws his power, charisma and universal message from the authenticity of the individual, from the experience of the environment, society and time and their embeddedness into the wider picture of the world.”
