Trust is the basic glue that binds societies, groups, organisations and individual relationships (e.g. family, partnerships, friendships, etc.). It takes time to establish trust, and afterwards it needs to be properly nurtured and maintained. Trust can be much faster torn than built. Individual traumatic events can bond us together, but they can also be the root cause of mistrust and subsequent destructive phenomena. The more that both a group itself and each of its individuals process trauma, the less they use defence mechanisms to protect themselves, and the more they are able to work towards common as well as individual goals and to more clearly see the situation, others and, of course, themselves as an opportunity to help us create our own journey.
