Programme:
Alojz Srebotnjak, Naturae vox – Call of Nature
Ludwig van Beethoven, Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major, Op. 58
Ludwig van Beethoven, Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major, Pp. 73, “Emperor”
The rescheduled concluding concert of the 2019/20 Orange Season marking the 80th anniversary of the first lady of Slovenian pianism, Dubravka Tomšič Srebotnjak. Under the baton of Simon Krečič, the pianist and the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra will perform two piano concertos by Ludwig van Beethoven. The Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major, which, by virtue of its fiery virtuosity and symphonic expansiveness, soon earned the sobriquet "Emperor", constitutes the pinnacle of Beethoven’s five piano concertos.
The introductory piece, Naturae vox – Call of Nature, was composed by one of the most prominent Slovenian artists, Alojz Srebotnjak, the late life companion of Dubravka Tomšič Srebotnjak. He studied composition under Lucijan Marija Škerjanc and pursued further studies abroad. Attracting attention with his remarkable flair for vocals and expressiveness early on, the composer gained artistic maturity seeking ways to "express his inner self".
