Arriving in good time
During the festive season in December, traffic tends to get heavily congested in Ljubljana. Visitors are advised to leave home earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.
Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra
Conductor: Philipp von Steinaecker
Soloist: Carolin Widmann, violin
Programme:
Andrej Makor: Koral, Premiere performance, commissioned by the Slovenian Philharmonic
Alban Berg: Violin Concerto
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: Symphony No. 5, Op. 107, “Reformation”
The three diverse works – a romantic symphony by Mendelssohn, a violin concerto by Alban Berg, a representative of the Second Viennese School, and a new work by the young Slovenian composer Andrej Makor – have one thing in common: they all pay tribute to the father of Western music, Johann Sebastian Bach. All three compositions include Protestant chorales set to music long ago by the greatest composer of all time.
