Antonije Pušić, better known as Rambo Amadeus, is an iconic figure in Balkan music – and one of the few who truly deserves that title. A poet, composer, innovator, philosopher, social provocateur, and, above all, a chronicler of his time, he dissects the era from within rather than merely observing it from a distance. And yes – he is also an accomplished sailor.
Born in Kotor, raised in Herceg Novi, and now based in Belgrade, his music is a distinctive hybrid of genres, while his trademark remains his sharp, satirical lyrics – an outspoken exposé of the absurdities of modern society.
His discography spans twenty albums. He has composed music for theatre and film, most notably for Metropolis, Fritz Lang’s silent classic, for which he created a new score and performed it with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra. He has received numerous awards – ranging from satire to advertising, and from film to music. He has also acted in films and written the opera Pasija po Stelli, which premiered at KotorArt in 2019. More recently, he has collaborated regularly with the Macedonian National Jazz Orchestra, performing throughout the region.
In 2019, he launched his solar sailboat – a vessel powered by wind and sun. Ecology, for him, is a practice rather than a pose: he drives a solar-powered electric car and owns a solar power plant.
On 19 October, he will take the stage at Linhart Hall with his unique project Omnikulturalist, created especially for Cankarjev dom, which he will perform for our audience alongside the RTV Slovenia Big Band. “Omnikulturalism” is perhaps the most accurate description of his long-standing creative universe. His artistic core – and, consequently, his distinctive style – is forged from a broad spectrum of influences, ranging from music and literature to visual arts across different eras and regions of the world.
As the artist himself says, however, the most interesting part is yet to come. So far, everything has been merely an overture.
