The final event of the 2023 Noches de Tablao series features the innovative pianist Andrès Barrios, a prominent exponent of the intrepid and bold 21st-century flamenco. A self-taught musician, Barrios first encountered flamenco in childhood, in his native Utrera (Seville), and began to expand his artistic horizons through jazz, Latino and Afro-Cuban music with musical influences as varied as Chick Corea, Chucho Valdés, Michel Camilo and Gonzalo Rubalcaba. His classical training served to enrich his distinctive southern Spanish piano style and strong artistic presence, and injected a sense of harmony and aesthetic beauty into his compositions. Today, his admiration for and exploration of Spanish classical composers such as Albéniz, Turina and Falla allow him to dexterously blend styles and incorporate different world music elements.
Prompted by his interest in a seamless integration of music and dance, the pianist has recruited special collaborators for the CD Club event, Madrid-based dancer Daniel Caballer whose musical ear and sense of rhythm are most impressive, and Ruven Ruppik, a German percussionist and professor at the Zurich and Detmold music academies, focusing on various traditional music styles and classical music. A multidisciplinary showcase of talent and infectious beats, the Andrés Barrios Trío’s interactive dance-music performance will quickly get the whole crowd dancing.
As one of the most brilliant exponents of the new generation of flamenco, Andrès Barrios is rapidly making a name for himself, captivating both national and global audiences at venues that include Teatro Real Madrid, Vitoria Jazz Festival, Flamenco Biennial in Seville, Essaouira World Music Festival and the San Javier International Jazz Festival.
The Noches de tablao series is supported by the Municipality of Ljubljana.
