Arriving in good time
During the festive season in December, traffic tends to get heavily congested in Ljubljana. Visitors are advised to leave home earlier than usual to avoid arriving late.
Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir
Philipp von Steinaecker, conductor
Programme:
Richard Strauss: Zwei Gesänge, Op. 34
Richard Strauss: An Alpine Symphony, Op. 64, TrV 233
Join us for a concert marking the opening of the Slovenian Philharmonic’s new season. Performing Strauss’ magnificent masterpiece for 16-part choir, Zwei Gesänge, Op. 34, the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir will journey into a world that verges on symphonic music. This is because the German composer and conductor Richard Strauss wrote this work concurrently with his greatest symphonic poems, and they consequently reflect similarities in structure. In the second part, the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Strauss’ tenth and final symphonic poem, An Alpine Symphony, Op. 64. The poem is written in one uninterrupted flow of music and portrays twenty-two episodes of a mountain climb, the titles of various sections depicting different experiences in the magnificent alpine world.
